The Rundown on our Generation Bee Honey and Hives!

The Rundown on our Generation Bee Honey and Hives!

Here at Generation Bee, we have perfected our craft of beekeeping and forged it into creating 100% chemical and fragrance-free honey and skincare products. When our founder, Mike, had his beekeeping interest sparked with a simple Beekeeping for Dummies book, some internet research, and a local bee club, he had no idea of the incredible journey he was embarking on.

Beekeeping has numerous aspects that are all important to understand and tend to. We can have roughly over 100,000 bees at a given time, but over the summer, our bee numbers can reach over one million. That’s a lot of buzzing!

Honeybees are extremely social creatures, and ensuring you understand the roles that are present in a colony is crucial. When introducing a new queen bee, some beekeepers will simply drop their queen into the hive. But with our Generation Bee team, we like to give our worker bees an extra day to get to know the queen better and sense her pheromones. It is also vital to leave the hive alone for 2-3 weeks to give them time to adjust to their new queen.

When it comes to taking care of bees, something we like to say is: bees are pets! Just like a cat or dog, when they get sick, you treat them to the best of their ability.

Hive inspections are essential to keeping an eye on hive health and wellbeing. As beekeepers, we focus on moving slowly through our hives to ensure the safety of our bees when inspecting, the number of bees, and if they’re healthy! While we run inspections every 2-3 weeks, different beekeepers have different timelines they follow to check up on their honeybees.

Now that you know a bit more about how we sustain our bees and keep them happy and healthy, let’s learn about how their efforts translate to our all-natural Generation Bee products!

Our bees are sourced from a local beekeeper who has thousands of hives. That’s right. Thousands! When harvesting honey, our brood frames within our hives are quite large, but we actually utilize the honey from our super frames to include in our Lip Balms, Body Butter, Eye Cream, and more! These honey supers provide rich antioxidants and natural superpowers to help nourish and replenish your skin.

While our Generation Bee team takes the utmost care of our bees to ensure quality ingredients and products for you and your skin, be sure to take a second to thank the bees!
